Ever run yourself ragged trying to help someone in need? Almost to the point where you compromise your health? Yep, that happens, especially for someone in the role as a caretaker, like Firefly. Whether you are a friend, parent, teacher, or counselor, it’s essential to know that you cannot simply solve someone else’s problem by “fixing” them. You can not pull someone out of a “Dark Place” who is unwilling to help themselves.
It is easy to get consumed with the idea that you can fix someone in the Firefly role, especially since you have the absolute best intentions. Remember to take a beat, assess the situation, and determine if your efforts truly serve the person you’re trying to help. As caretakers, sometimes the best way to help someone is to show them the way, provide them the tools and let them take it from there.
